How do I solve lockpicking puzzles in Gothic Remake?
Read the current position of every plate in the lockpicking minigame, enter them into the solver above, fill in the link matrix (which plates move together), and press Solve. You get a step-by-step move sequence like "Plate 2 → Right x3" that opens the lock without breaking your lockpick.
How many plates can a lock have?
GothicTool supports locks with 4, 5, 6, or 7 plates, which covers every lockpicking puzzle in Gothic Remake — from simple chests early in the game to master-level locks with the full seven plates.
What do "Same" and "Opposite" mean in the link matrix?
The matrix describes what happens to the other plates when you move one plate. "Same" means the linked plate slides in the same direction, "Opposite" means it slides the other way, and "—" means it stays put. You can read the links directly off the pins in the in-game lockpicking screen.
Does my lockpicking skill change the solution?
No. A higher lockpicking skill only removes some of the links between plates, so the lock has fewer moving parts. The solver works the same way — skilled characters just get shorter solutions with fewer linked plates to enter.
What does "x3" mean in a solution step?
It means repeat that move three times in a row. For example, "Plate 2 → Right x3" tells you to push plate 2 to the right three times before moving on to the next step.
Which algorithm mode should I use?
Pick "Fewer plate switches" if you want the easiest solution to follow in-game — it groups moves on the same plate together. Pick "Shortest moves" if you want the mathematically fewest clicks. The "fast" variants trade a little optimality for much quicker solving on slow devices or complex 7-plate locks.
What if the solver takes too long or times out?
Hard 7-plate locks can be heavy for the exact modes. The solver stops after a generous expansion budget; if that happens, switch to one of the "(fast)" modes, which finish in a fraction of the time. A timeout does not mean the lock is impossible.
Can I share a lock or solution with a friend?
Yes. Use "Share link" to copy a URL that encodes the exact lock setup — anyone opening it sees the same plates and links. Use "Copy solution" to grab a plain-text move list you can paste into Discord, Reddit, or a Steam guide.
Is GothicTool an official Gothic Remake tool?
No. GothicTool is a free fan-made lockpick solver. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Alkimia Interactive, THQ Nordic, or the Gothic Remake team. All puzzle data stays in your browser — there is no account, no tracking, and nothing is uploaded.
